Insulated Curtains

Insulated curtains are environmentally-conscious and will save you money year after year.  According to some studies, the energy loss to your windows can approach 50%.  Insulated curtains can substantially reduce this energy loss as well as block solar radiation through your windows.  Moreover, insulated curtains can help protect your privacy.  They are also helpful for keeping outside noise from infiltrating through your windows.  Because of these many benefits, insulated curtains are among the most popular energy efficient window coverings.

Have you ever thought about installing insulated curtains?  What is the best way of determining whether you should?  Well, ask yourself the following questions.  Are you interested in doing something good for the environment?  Do you want to save money on energy year after year?  Are you interested in the federal tax credit for energy efficient home improvements?  Are you concerned about how the cost of heating and cooling your home seems to increase at an outrageous rate?  If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, it may be time to invest in insulated curtains.

In Winter months, interior warm air is drawn to your windows, which have been cooled from the outside, and leaves your home. Insulated curtains can cut down your loss of heat by as much as 25%.

In Summer months, your windows act as conduits through which heat enters your home. A study by the University of Florida showed that insulated curtains with white-plastic backing and a medium color reduced the amount of heat coming through your window by as much as 33%. Insulated curtains are better in Summer months than other forms of energy efficient window coverings because insulated curtains have pleats that trap insulating air.

In short, energy efficient window coverings, like energy efficient window curtains, provide insulation and will block solar radiation. Both of these qualities will reduce your energy bills in both Winter and Summer. Moreover, insulated curtains will increase the comfort of your home. They will also prevent solar radiation damage to your furniture or to your floors and will reduce the amount of street noise that comes through your windows. You should explore the extent to which the insulated curtains you purchase qualify for the federal tax credit for energy efficient home improvements. Your local utility company may also offer additional incentives for you to install insulated curtains.

Insulated curtains do not make your windows airtight. So the energy inefficiency problems associated with air infiltration or leakage are not addressed by insulated curtains. If you weatherstrip and caulk around your windows, you can help reduce air leakage.

Insulated curtains are either purchased online or through a local retailer. If you purchase insulated curtains on the Internet, you will be able to comparison shop on your own schedule and will be able to find the best bargains. Most reputable vendors of insulated curtains have liberal return policies so you will be safe if you need to return them. On the other hand, if you go to a local retailer, you will have the benefit of being able to actually see and touch the insulated curtains and assess whether they are right for you. You will also have access to a live salesperson who is (hopefully) knowledgeable about insulated curtains and can help you make the right choice.

In conclusion, insulated curtains are good for the environment, your pocketbook, and the comfort of your home. Look into purchasing quality insulated curtains. You will be glad that you did.
